HYROX Race Fuel, Hydration & Recovery Strategy

1. Before the Race: Caffeinated Energy

Around 15 to 45 minutes before starting, take one Maurten Gel 100 CAF 100.

It provides 25g of carbohydrates and 100mg of caffeine to support energy and alertness before the demanding running and functional workout stations begin.

Only use caffeine products that you have already tested during training. Consider your total caffeine intake from coffee, pre-workout supplements and other sources.

If you prefer to avoid caffeine, take one regular Maurten Gel 100 instead and save the CAF 100 gel for another training session or race.

2. Start of the Race: Keep It Light

Avoid consuming too much fuel or fluid immediately after starting. Settle into your pace and take only small sips of water when needed.

Your pre-race gel should support the opening stages, so there is usually no need to take another gel immediately.

3. During the Race: Regular Maurten Gel 100

Around the middle of the race—or shortly before you expect your energy to drop—take one regular Maurten Gel 100.

It provides 25g of carbohydrates without caffeine, making it suitable for maintaining energy after taking the caffeinated gel before the race.

Consider taking it near the Roxzone or before a running section, where it may be easier to consume without disrupting your pace.

4. Extra Gel: Backup or Longer Sessions

The second regular Maurten Gel 100 can be:

• Kept as a race-day backup

• Used during a longer HYROX training session

• Saved for another workout or endurance event

• Used later in the race if this is part of your tested nutrition plan

You do not necessarily need to consume all three gels during one HYROX race. Individual requirements vary according to race duration, intensity and personal tolerance.

• Additional Maurten Gel 100: Keep as a backup or save for another session

5. Hydration Strategy

Mix either one SiS HYDRO Electrolyte Tablet or one SiS HYDRO+ sachet with 500ml of water according to the packaging instructions.

Sip the electrolyte drink before the race to begin well hydrated. During the event, take small sips of water at the Roxzone hydration stations when needed.

Avoid drinking too much at once, as this may cause stomach discomfort during the running and workout stations.

6. Final Stages: Stay Comfortable

During the final running sections and workout stations, avoid consuming anything too heavy.

If needed, take small sips of water and focus on maintaining your pace without overloading your stomach close to the finish.

7. After the Race: Amino Acid Recovery Support

After finishing, take one Amino Vital Gold 4000mg sachet with water.

It provides 4,000mg of essential amino acids, including leucine-rich essential amino acids, to support recovery following demanding exercise.

Amino Vital Gold is not a complete post-race meal or recovery drink. Follow it with adequate fluids and a balanced meal or snack containing carbohydrates and protein to replenish energy and support muscle recovery.

The second Amino Vital Gold sachet can be saved for another intensive training session or race.
